Universal Posilivety

Back with a vengeance

Finally the wait is finished. About 10 years ago I first came up with the idea of Universal Posilivety. It was born out of a negative situation. I was fat, sick, depressed, feeling like my life had no meaning. I watched the Secret like many of you have and first learned about the law of attraction. Easier said than done and while I thought I knew what depression, negativity and bad luck was, boy was I in for a bumpy ride. I guess the universe was telling me, if you want to be a light for those in darkness, if you want to be an example of how to see the positives in a very negative world than I would need to enroll in the school of hard knocks and take the full bachelor, Masters and Doctorate program. It makes more sense to me now, it is hard to help someone out of the mire when you have been given the silver spoon in life. Knowing how to see the positives you need to be well versed and experienced in living through the negatives.

Becoming a positive person is making a pact with the universe. No matter what life throws at you, you will choose to find the positives and focus on those. By all means learn from every single negative situation, and continue your path upwards. I have had to stop dwelling on the past failures and to stop fixating on my next 15 years and decide to live my life one day at a time. Learn from your past, set goals for your future, but do what you can to make the best out of today and prepare for tomorrow. When you wake up in the morning, ask yourself what can you do today? What are some projects you CAN do to better set you up for the successes of tomorrow. We can overwhelm ourselves with the plans of the future but often times, this leads us to getting nothing done today. That was the story of my life for the past 15 years. We read about overnight success. We see advertisements that tell us we can make $1,000 a day following an easy blueprint. If you want real advice talk to people that are successful and have made it. Some of the greatest advice I have received is to have your plan, but implement it one day at a time. Most businesses fail in a year because people give up. You WILL succeed if you continue plugging away. Keep following your daily goal and work towards goals that are easy to achieve. You may have a business selling hats and are constantly thinking, “To be successful I need to be selling 10,000 hats per month and making $100,000 a month.” If that’s your expectations right off the bat you will be met with a ton of negativity as reaching that goal will take a lot of money, a lot of inventory, and many customers. Tell yourself, “what if I can sell 100 hats per month?” When you reach that goal by daily doing what is needed to reach it, then tell yourself, “well, I have made it to 100 sales per month, what about 500?” Continue to grow at a pace that works for you. A pace that you can learn and grow and not be overwhelmed. Just DON’T GIVE UP. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your empire. Do you think Bill Bowerman and his waffle iron were thinking about million dollar sponsorship contracts for Nike back when he was still coaching track and field? Do what you can today with a vision for tomorrow and learn from every negative experience as you grow. See the positives, visualize the success and you will learn, you are the architect of your destiny. Never put off until tomorrow what you CAN do today!!

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

Elect…..yea, that day

Yep, it’s that time again. In a year full of uncertainties, stress, anxiety, hopelessness and a bunch more words, or expletives we find ourselves asking the question again. Who do I chose as president elect this time? Some of us have been stressing about this for a while, some just don’t care. Regardless of where you stand there is no doubt, things will change depending on the outcome of this evening.

I don’t like to sway minds in one way or other because that is not the principles of posilivety. Living harmoniously regardless of our beliefs, cultures. Living the life we choose, or to be cliché -living our best life- is my main focus in life. We aren’t promised tomorrow so live the life you dream of today.

All that aside though there is no doubt, the ramifications of today’s end result will linger for some time. Being a firm believer in choosing your own destiny, I am a firm believer in getting out there and voting. This is one of the greatest gifts we have been given as humanity, the power to choose. I challenge all of you to get out there today and let your voice be heard. Be responsible of course, if not for you, for the peace of mind of others who are out there voting during a pandemic.

Whatever the outcome today though, remain a united people. As Abe once said (or that other guy, the carpenters son), “A house divided against itself, cannot stand.” We need to remain a country in harmony with its diversity. One of the reasons I am proud to be American, that melting pot of cultures, races, personalities and belief systems. There will always be outcomes or situations living in America that we strongly disagree with. We cannot alienate each other over these issues. Freedom of speech gives us our soap box to make known why we believe in a certain way but be objective and listen to your fellow Americans. You may not see eye to eye but you sure as hell can share a beer at the end of the day.

In a year full of injustice, use this day to remind yourself why your country needs you. Make an effort today to reflect on yourself. How can I be more accepting? How can I remove stereotypes that have been ingrained in my mind? Make a resolution. Decide today to love all equally. Treat everyone around you regardless of their beliefs, race, religion as you would want to be treated yourself. Be willing to get out of your comfort zone to become a more rounded human being. Being a foodie, I always find food as a great way to learn about other cultures. Once a week, pick a different country, maybe even one you know little about and find a recipe online to try. As you taste the food, close your eyes for a minute and transport yourself there. For a minute feel what it is like to be someone else. You will learn how small of a fish you are in a vast ocean.

When we wake up tomorrow, outcome revealed, do not lose hope if things didn’t go the way you wanted it to. We contribute to the final result but we cannot control it. What we can control is how we process it and our actions that follow. Don’t ever stop sharing your views and your beliefs. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” -Martin Luther King Jr. You don’t want to live your life in regret, wishing you had spoken up. There will always be opposition, but that doesn’t matter. Know who you are and be you, unapologetically.

We always think that New Year’s Day is the time to make resolutions. I ask the question why wait? Everyday is a new day. For real change to happen in our lives and in our country we need to enact change daily. As Benjamin Franklin said, “Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.” Powerful words these are. Another principal of posilivety is living in the here and now. Don’t forget the past or stop planning for the future but do the things today, live your life today, make choices today that will impact your tomorrow. One thing this pandemic has given many of us is time. We haven’t all used this time to our best advantage, but that’s ok. Don’t beat yourself up over the past 6 months. What can you do today? Right now? Don’t let another one of Benjamin Franklin’s quotes define you, “Some people die at 25 and aren’t buried until 75”. It took me 35 years to realize this. Some even figure this out later in life, but that’s the beauty, it’s never too late. No matter the university you attend you will always see that salt and peppered classmate. Instead of putting things on a bucket list of things to do before you die, why don’t you have the mentality of doing things while you live!

What a great day to be human! Enjoy this day, just like watching your favorite team play a final, win or lose your loyalty remains the same. Whether the next 4 years feels a bit more red than blue or vice versa, don’t stop supporting the team. 328.2 million Americans and undocumented Americans are depending on your commitment to freedom. Billions of people are watching, absolutely no pressure right?

Ask Yourself the Tough Questions

We often try to skirt the tough questions in life. We justify avoiding those questions with fear and self doubt. What do I really want in life? Am I happy as a person? Am I living my best life? Am I happy with my career? Am I happy with my relationship? You don’t necessarily have to ask the tough questions and then expect to dive off the edge. Just be aware of yourself. Don’t live a lie.

I try to live day by day. In the past I spent tons of time pondering my past, thinking of the future. When you spend too much time thinking about the end result you lose sight of the journey it will take to get there and you end up going nowhere. While it is important to visualize where you want to be, don’t obsess over it. Do what you can today, focus your energy on what you can control. You cannot control the past, you cannot instantly attain the results you crave. I recommend setting a plan daily on things you can grasp in your hands and work on today. Keep a vision board that way you always have a clear idea of where you are heading.

We often want to dull our mind with life and routine but don’t forget to ask yourself the tough questions. Time moves quickly and the older you get that is more real, so everyday be in tune with yourself. Always think for yourself.

I am not a self help guru, I am Jay Schiller. Who am I? I am just another imperfect human being, I don’t have all the answers you need. I am daily learning about myself and life. I write this blog as a way to express myself and continue on my path of self discovery. I thank each and every one of you who has taken the time out of their day to read my blog. I invite you to subscribe to this blog, bookmark this site and support me in the journey. Leave comments if you feel inspired and lets all make the decision to be architects of our lives. Living our best life is something we can all do on an individual basis. You are in charge, don’t forget that.

What now?

We are in lock-down…Sure you could spend the time freaking out and think of all the ways your life could unravel…or, you could wake up. Look outside, take a breath of fresh air, have a cup of coffee or tea. Find someone you love, give them a hug. Make that Sunday morning breakfast. Read an uplifting book or 2 or 50, (who really knows how long this will last) Do your 30 minute abs…yes, no excuses, you finally have the time. Make the next few weeks or months about self discovery and self improvement. For all the times you have been telling yourself I wish I could but I have no time, the universe just gifted you a much needed stay-cation. This stay at home order can change lives in beautiful ways if we take the time to look within. Make this self quarantine exactly what it is, an order to spend time with your-SELF. Be smart, be proactive and don’t spend any time worrying, billions are in the same boat as you. When this is all over will you be a better version of yourself than the you who just sat down thinking, OMG!!! I have been laid off, how can I cover my bills and mortgage. Guess what, you are not alone, so accept that things will all work out and start focusing on what’s important…YOU!!!
